Types of Containers and Their Dimensions
20 FT. Standard Container
External: 20' long x 8' wide x 8' 6" high
Internal: 19' 4” long x 7'9" wide x 7'10" high
40 FT. Standard Container
External: 40' long x 8' wide x 8' 6” high
Internal: 39' 6” long x 7' 9” wide x 7' 10” high
40 FT. High Cube Container
Exterior: 40' long x 8' wide x 9' 6” high
Interior: 39’ 6” long x 7’ 9” wide x 8’ 10” high
Containers and Their Condition
New One Trip (New)
New one trip containers are containers which have been used one time, Shipping goods from China (where most containers are made) to the United States. They are in perfect or almost perfect condition with some very minor dents or scratches from the trip from China to the United States. These containers are considered to be NEW.
Used Good (Cargo Worthy)
These are containers which have recently been used by a shipping company to transport cargo. In many cases they have been inspected by a certified inspector ensuring the doors open and close properly, there are no leaks and the container is fully functionable to be packed up with goods and loaded onto a ship for export. These containers can vary from 7-15 years in age and will have rust, dents and dings. They will function properly for all your shipping and storage needs.
Used Acceptable

These are containers which have been retired from use by the shipping lines and are primarily 15 years old and above. These containers will be very well worn and will have rust and dings and the floors will be scuffed, sometimes heavily. The doors will close but may require significant effort to do so, sometimes with the aid of grease and tools. These containers are a perfect cheaper alternative for safely storing any kind of equipment or product.

1. Weather Seals
Shipping container weather seals, also known as gaskets, protect containers from water, pests, and other environmental factors
3. Lock Box
Most New, “One Trip”, Containers have added Lock Boxes. Used Containers do not have Lock Boxes.
5. Air Vents
New Containers are equipped with 2 or more Vents to provide minimal air flow, and to prevent sweating.
7. Fork Pockets
Many New 40' containers are equipped with forklift pockets and all 20’ Containers are equipped with Fork Pockets.
2. Lock Bars
The Double Doors of a container are fitted with four Lock Bars, each of which can be pad‐locked.
4. Corner Fittings
Containers can be hoisted by the corner fittings and stacked on top of one another.
6. Side Walls
The corrugated walls of a container are built from 14 gauge steel, are non‐structural and may be modified.
8. Flooring
Most Container Floors consist of 1 1/8” treated plywood over steel cross‐members spaced at 11” apart.
